For several years my girlfriends and I enjoyed our scheduled “Girls Night Out”, with dinner and dancing lasting until the wee hours of the morning. Some nights we’d venture out to a nightclub playing Top 40’s music, while other times we grooved to any number of Live Bands at a variety of venues. Times have definitely changed, with the closings of a number of local hot spots, including but not limited to the venues we frequented. One venue after another, although always filled to the gills with eager customers ready to move and groove (albeit with the consumption of watered down liquor of their choice), suddenly and unceremoniously closed their doors. Poof!, they were history.
In our ever-surging need for music and dance after a long and arduous work week, the search is on for fun and exciting places to get our groove on. Despite our being a number of years older than the typical “teeny-bopper” crowds frequenting local bars and nightclubs, my girlfriends and I somehow manage to remain energized until the last song is played.
One of our favorite local bands, Emerald City, has kept us entertained with their fabulous renditions of a variety of original songs, old-school hits, as well as a long list of current hit songs heard on every radio across the nation. By far, Emerald City is the best local band in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Emerald City Band has performed for President and Mrs. Bush, numerous Fortune 500 companies, as well as high profile weddings of Emmit Smith, Mark Cuban and Angie Harmon. Emerald City Band has performed with such talents as Roberta Flack, Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald and many others. This 10 piece, 3-horn section group has performed all over the country, including New York, Los Angeles and Opryland. However, an increasing problem remains.
Most venues we have visited have a dance floor only big enough to squeeze in a very small, compact car. With no room on either side to open the car doors. When you add the regular stand-around gawkers taking up much needed space on the so-called dance floor, you’re left with no alternative than to shake your big-girl-panties right there at your table.
Such a high-class act needs a high-class location to enthrall and entertain us all. Last night’s performance at the Down Under Pub, in Frisco Texas, was over the top as usual. However, Down Under Pub is seriously lacking the needed space for party-goers to forget their worries and cares for a night of music and dancing. My girlfriends and I will not be returning there, but we will continue to seek out great fun and dance at other venue locations, with or without our favorite local band, Emerald City. Hopefully, Emerald City Band will be found at bigger and better venues, the sooner the better.
