“Telling It Like It Is” has seen an increase in traffic and readership, especially over the last two months, for a variety of reasons. After reading some incredibly well written posts found on Blogging Mix, and working hard to follow the recommendations Rocky offers, I’ve made a variety of changes to my blog site. After viewing the layout at Blogging Mix, I felt very strongly that I needed to add links on my sidebar for viewers to easily find topics or categories of interest to them, rather than simply having an archive list showing previous month posts. More links will be added over the coming days and weeks, as I continue to make my blog more user friendly.
In a previous post, I discussed the benefits of joining various social networking groups, and the benefits cannot be over-emphasized. The simple task of logging into your various network groups is an easy way of getting your blog noticed, BlogCatalog for example, due to the fact that as soon as you’ve logged in, your image or avatar is then shown on the site homepage for others to see and hopefully click on.
The most recommended and found to be effective tool in increasing traffic to your blog is the importance of writing articles directed to your target audience. It’s rather boring in my opinion to visit other blogs that turn out to be nothing but drivel about how their day went, how cute their dog or kitty is, etc.
The benefits of Viral Linking has not yet been utilized on Telling It Like It Is, but I’m excited at the possibilities and will be implementing viral links within coming days. I look forward to passing along to you the results found from viral linking very soon, so please stay tuned.
It is also vital to submit your blog to Search Engines and RSS Directories and Ping your blog after each blog post. Below is an extensive list of Search Engine and RSS Directories, so do your best to submit to as many as you can. This one simple step has done wonders for my blog, and I still have a couple on the list I still need to submit to:
Major Search Engine Directories:
DMOZ Google Yahoo AltaVista AOL Euroseek Kanoodle Lycos
What-U-Seek Exactseek Excite Alexa AllTheWeb Inktomi SearchIt
Blog And RSS Directories:

One of the most important things about building traffic to your blog comes from visiting and commenting on other blogs. There is no way to avoid the reality that building relationships with other bloggers, by commenting on their articles, is high on the priority list of most if not all high traffic blogs. Make it a daily priority to seek out blogs with interesting content and take a moment and comment on what you read. By doing so, you not only are building relationships within the blogging world, but you’re also leaving a link to your blog when you comment on others. I make it a priority to visit and comment on at least eight blogs every day, and if what I’m reading is something I enjoy, I Stumble them, Digg them, Fave them to bring attention to the article. It’s all give and take, bottom line.
I hope you have found this article to be helpful for your own blog. If you have any helpful suggestions for bloggers to build traffic, please take a moment and comment. I will then be able to find your blog and can visit YOU.
